About Workganics

Workganics is an independent people and risk consultancy working with boards, executives, law firms and pension-fund members in Portugal and beyond.

Our story

Workganics was founded in 2017 to provide people and risk consulting built on the experience its founder had gained over decades in global consulting firms.

The intention was specific: keep the technical standards of a large international practice, and remove the distance that usually comes with one. Clients work directly with the person doing the analysis, and engagements are sized to the decision in front of them rather than to a standard methodology.

The firm operates in the Portuguese market with its own resources and, where a project requires it, through partnerships that bring specialist capability alongside.

Consulting philosophy

We believe advice is only useful when someone can act on it. That shapes how we work: we state assumptions openly, we quantify what can be quantified, and we say plainly where judgement rather than calculation is doing the work.

We also stay involved. Recommendations that are never implemented are the most common failure in consulting, so our engagements are designed to run through implementation and into the period where the change has to hold.

What guides our work

  • Technical rigour

    Actuarial and remuneration work is only credible if the numbers withstand scrutiny. Assumptions are always stated.

  • Independence

    We have no products to place and no commercial interest in the option a client chooses.

  • Discretion

    Succession, partner pay and retirement decisions are sensitive. Confidentiality is the default, not a clause.

  • Practical implementation

    We work alongside client teams until a decision has actually taken effect.

Our approach

Advice that reaches implementation

We work alongside client teams rather than handing over a report. Each engagement moves through four stages.

  1. 01

    Understand

    We establish the facts: structures, commitments, current costs and what the organisation is actually trying to decide.

  2. 02

    Design

    We model realistic options, quantify each one and set out the trade-offs for the people who have to approve them.

  3. 03

    Implement

    We support the rollout: documentation, communication with those affected, and the practical steps the change requires.

  4. 04

    Embed

    We review how the change is holding, adjust where needed and leave the organisation able to run it without us.

Frederico Machado Jorge

Founder and Managing Partner

Frederico Machado Jorge founded Workganics to bring specialist people and risk consulting to organisations that need technical depth alongside practical implementation.

He holds a degree in Mathematics from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, a postgraduate qualification in Actuarial Sciences from Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and completed an Executive Leadership Program at Harvard Business School.

Before founding Workganics he established Mercer and Willis Towers Watson in Portugal. He has served on the governing bodies of the Instituto dos Actuários Portugueses and the Instituto Português de Consultores de Gestão, and has represented Portugal in several international professional organisations.

Over nearly four decades he has worked as a consultant, manager, lecturer and speaker, mainly in Portugal but also in Spain, Sweden and at European level.
